Retro Twin
The 1980s Performance Twin:
This Retro Twin is a high-energy template that defined an era of aggressive, vertical surfing. popularized during the late '70s and early '80s professional circuit, this style fin was the catalyst for moving away from the horizontal glide of the '70s "Fish" and toward the explosive, top-to-bottom surfing we see today.
It is the blueprint for speed, pivot, and the iconic "skatey" feel that allows for lightning-fast direction changes.
Core Design Characteristics
• Upright Stance: Unlike a swept-back keel, the 80s template stands very upright. This reduces the "turning arc," allowing the board to pivot on a dime and head straight up the face of the wave.
• Wide Base / Narrow Tip: It features a substantial base for instant acceleration (drive), which quickly tapers into a narrow, refined tip. This transition allows the fin to "break free" easily at the lip for tail-wafts and slides.
• Increased Depth: To compensate for the lack of a center fin, these twins are typically taller (deeper) than modern thruster fins. This depth provides the necessary "lever" to hold the rail in a high-speed bottom turn.
